I am having problems getting term to communicate with a device via its serial port.
I'm using a BAFO USB to serial adapter and have installed the latest Prolific driver.
I have also installed CoolTerm but it doesn't work either.

I switch on my device and it sends its initial text.
Both the Mac Term and CoolTerm show garbled text that looks like this:
C·C!.´ãY¨ã°W•.k≠°!ï[,´Å*WÎXW±bñjHLì..¢Æ[,´5°
ï[,´ÅÎZK

In addition, I am not able to send any commands from either application.
On the Mac Term app, even if I press enter it does not respond.

The driver is present in the system report.
I am using OS X Yosemite, v10.10.5

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome.

After a little research, the BAFO device driver for Mac is really old and supports OS 9 through OS X 10.4. It still may work though, if it installed and is loading properly.

Not sure how to help troubleshoot. What exactly are you trying to use the adapter for?

Hi
Thanks very much for your message.
I am trying to connect to a piece of electronic equipment, GPS receiver.
The equipment uses a command line interface (CLI) for control, status monitoring, etc. via RS232.
I have managed to use telnet via ethernet, that works well.
