Hello and welcome.

-Which model Mac?
-Which version of OS X?
-What is it you are trying to do in Terminal exactly?
-Does other commands like uptime work in Terminal?

I too am having difficulty with Terminal ver 2.8 in High Sierra. ftp is not found, for example. I'm running an iMac with OS 10.13.1. iTerm2 has the same problem. Both these terminals work fine on my MacBook Air with OS 10.12.6 and the older Terminal 2.73.
