Hello all, I am using a Mac Mini (M1, 2020) and a MacBook Air (M1, 2020), both with same OSX Release (Monterey 12.3.1.). On both devices I am using VLC Player (both 3.0.17.3. Vetinari Apple Silicon).
On the Mac Mini I can play my mp4 files without any problems, on the Macbook I cannot even open them properly. Any ideas?
That is indeed the current version of VLC so the app should be okay. Before trying anything else, I recommend updating macOS to Monterey 12.4 (21F79). It was released yesterday and I can confirm that it runs fine on my Mac mini and no my Mac Studio, and VLC runs on both, no problem.
If, after updating to macOS 12.4, the issue with VLC is still there, then the conflict must be coming from other running processes. The immediate test I recommend is to temporarily create a new admin user, reboot into the new account, and test VLC again. If the same thing happens, try removing VLC completely by using an app remover like AppCleaner and installing a new copy of VLC.
If still no joy, then it must be hardware-related. Try disconnecting all connected peripherals for now, including the charger. Good luck.
