SOLVED Preferences Error

Hi, I have late 2013 Mac running Catalina 10.15.7 I just updated with new version (took what seemed a v. long time). The update completed and I received a message stating that update could not "load Software Update preference pane". I checked the Preferences and could not access my "preference pane". See attached screenshot below. How can I fix this?

Hello,

One thing to try is to disconnect from the Internet - turn off Wi-Fi and/or disconnect the Ethernet cable (if used). Then try opening System Preferences... and see if that works.
