I checked out a DVD from the library; unfortunately I can’t get it to play on my MAC computer, MacOS High Sierra, Version 10.13.6.

Do I need to download a specific application in order to watch this DVD? If so, which Application.

a DVD is not like a Quicktime move. it is a mixture of Video files, (often in chapters, correlation the the jumps that you can do on the Tv to get to certain screens and episodes) and seperate sound files, all linked along with also some action files, from when you click the menu commands on the screen.

so a Special Video Player is needed. and the VLC and a few other on the App Store can do the trick. try out a few free ones first.

Hello and welcome.
  • Which exact model Mac?
  • Does it have a built-in SuperDrive?
  • Does the DVD mount on your Desktop?
  • Does the DVD play in a standard home DVD Player?
If the disc is a normal DVD and your Mac has a SuperDrive (built-in optical disc drive), you should be able to use the DVD Player application in your Applications folder without the need for additional software. If the disc has a lot of scratches or other surface issues, and it doesn't mount, then it will not play. If it is not a standard commercial DVD, then the other software suggested may work.
