Thanks.

-Which version of Mac OS X?
-How many photos are we talking?
-Are they already on the computer, or are they actual slides that you would want to scan into the computer?

iPhoto can do that, as can a few other paid applications.

MacBook Pro: OS X Yosemite. Version: 10.10.5 Memory: 4 GB
We are talking over 5000 slides.
I have 3,436 photos in the computer.
After I organized them I am planning to trafer them to a DVD

That is quite an undertaking.

You can use the Photos app to import and organize all those photos. Some will automatically have date information embedded in them, if they were taken with a digital camera. The scans will have to be organized manually.

-Are you going to scan the 5,000 slides to import them to your Mac?
-As far as transferring them to DVD - as a storage disc, or for a slideshow playback?

Thanks: the plan is to transfer them to DVD for slide show. I am having problem with the memory and I am trying to learn how to do it using an external drive. Your suggestions are well taken.

No worries.

-What did you mean by "I am having problem with the memory" - is your internal hard drive almost full?
-Since Apple discontinued iDVD, we'll have to find a solution to export the slideshow and burn it to a DVD.

Yes, the internal hard drive is almost full. I have been using the Backup.app to backup, it use a lot of the memory. I delete the old backups that are in the hard drive after I transfer to a DVD and up loads it again. At the present time I have about 142 GB used by the backup. I am planing to take it to an expert to see if can fixe it.

I took the Mac Book Pro to the store explained the problem that I could delete the trash and I was backing up with backup.app (told me they do not support that program any more). He make me show him, how I was doing It and it worked, now you tell me what happen that I could not do it before. I clean up the memory, now I have plenty. I will start now working on my pictures.

Ahhh...makes sense. That old Apple Backup (orange umbrella icon) application hasn't been supported since the days of .Mac.

Good luck with the photos project.
