I have been lent an 17" imac running 10.4 while a friend travels the world. Trouble is , I don't have the password. How do I get pass the login dialogue box and into preferences to set up another user/account? Anyone got any ideas? Will I need to get Norton etc?

Hi there and welcome,

you will need to get in touch with your friend and ask for the password...

The only other way is to reboot withe the OS X install DVD and use the Password Reset Utility. This will then allow you to reset the main password without knowing it.

Nortons won't help and is not compatible with Tiger (10.4).

hi
in OSX you can select the start up disk by holding the alt key when you start your computer .. OS X install DVD should be install before that
1- insert the DVD system Disk
2- hold the alt key
3- start the computer
you will see the DVD and the system Disk
select the DVD and go on..
then selet to reset the password
that is all
(don't even try to install or upgrade your system .. you don't need that)
