owner name change

I just inherited my mom's G4 tower running OS 10.3.9 and am trying to figure out how to change the owner's name. Can't find anything in any help on the puter or at Apple. I know her password. Can anyone tell me how to change the computer owner's name?

Hi there and welcome,

if you go to System Preferences-->Accounts you can change the Computers "Long Name", however you really want to change the short name too...

This means getting your hands dirty in UNIX...

I have found this that may help and it should do it for you. I have not tried it myself.

The easiest (in a fashion) way is to do wipe the drive and reinstall the OS, then you can pick your own name.

Whichever way you decide to do it make sure you backup everything of importance. When changing user names you can easily mess up 'permissions'.
