Hi

I'm new to this forum, but I wonder if anyone out there has the solution to my problem.

I have text files saved in a folder, each file has an extremely long single list of random 6 figure codes.

I am trying to use the Find function or the Spotlight Application to search the content of these files and find one of the random codes.

I will have to repeat this Find with various other of the codes later also.

Hope some one can point me in the right direction.

Macaruba,

Have you run your search? It should work. When the find window opens, just select your location (the folder you have the files), then in the pull-down menus make the appropriate choice for the type of documents. When you enter the text string, you should get the specific file.

Thanks for that, I'm on Mac 10.5 at home and it works fine

It doesn't seem to work though when I'm at work.
We use a network of 6 mac networked up to a PC
server where all our work is stored and worked on.

When I try to search a folder on the server, it still
doesn't seem to find the codes.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure that Spotlight searches can search non-local files. I take it that you're trying to search on the network. I don't know whether that's possible. Hopefully someone here with more network experience will chime in.
