Not accepting password

I have been trying to log into my Mac computer for days now. It will not let me get past the first screen where it asks for my password.

-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-Did you recently apply and update/upgrade to OS X/macOS?
-Is Caps Lock on/stuck on by chance?
