New Mac user needs help with Apps to iPod

Hi all, I'm new here and a new Mac user, I apologise for my ignorance, but I just bought 2 games for my kids through the App store, but I can't get them onto their iPods... I have done this before and for some reason it won't work this time... are there iMac only Apps that won't work on iPods?

No they don't work on iPods.

There are 2 stores, the Mac App store and the iTunes App store. The Mac App Store sells Apps that run on your Macs, the iTunes App Store sells Apps that run on your iOS devices.

Even on the iTunes store you must look out to ensure the App you are purchasing will run on the model and type of iOS device you have.
