I have several video files i've created and then changed the name of. The name appears changed in the finder BUT when I open it in VLC or drop it in itunes it shows the original name.

There must be another place the name is stored (in the file?)

Any help?

Hello and welcome.

It may be pulling the original name from the metadata embedded in the file.

-Which version of Mac OS - 9.0x from your signature?
-Which versions of VLC and iTunes?
-What software was used to create the videos?

I believe VLC can edit metadata using Window > Media Information in the menu bar, and there should be some other third-party apps available as well.

Thanks Cory, VLC lets me see the metedata, but I am unable to save the changes. It looks like it's changing it, but when I go back to the file after saving the changes nothing has changed.

I changed the permissions on the file so all can read/write, still not saving changes.

I'll keep hunting.

-What software did you use to create the videos?
-Which version of VLC?
-Are you clicking the Save Metadata button after editing?
-Does it save any of the changes you make?
-Do you have a movie file you would be willing to upload for us to test with?
