My sound keeps going out on my Mac notebook

Everytime I am using my headphones on my notebook and then take them out the sound does not work. If someone could tell me the problem and how to fix it it would be appreciated. I have a Powerbook G4 running OSX

No problem, thanks for the info.

Can you 'get' the sound back by going to

System Preferences-->Sound-->Output-->Internal Speakers

How old is the PowerBook ? Model ?

I'll have a look around and see if I can get you a definitive answer later today.
