I'm new to Macs and find it a little strange. Reinstalled leopard after saving my docs like ISuite into a file.

Had 160G hard drive space and on reinstalling leopard, it went down to 105G!

I haven't even used 2G of memory before reinstalling and cannot find on the software anything to say where the memory has gone.

Has the hard drive been split? and if so, should it not show on the desktop?

Can anyone please help me?

Thanks

Chris

You can download the Leopard version of the maintenance app OnyX (linky) and firstly run the "Cleaning" and then the "Maintenance" Tasks.

I pretty much just leave the default setting as they are. Also, it's wise to not use your Mac as these tasks are running and expect to be prompted to do a restart about 3 times over the whole process.

Then download WhatSize, which will analyse your HD and report basically what is installed and how large the individual chunks are. This'll give you the opportunity to see if there are any unusually large files you were unaware of.

It'd be interesting to see what the WhatSize report has to say after you have ran OnyX as a lot of unwanted files/data should have already been removed.

One thing to note is that during any reboot that OnyX prompts you to do, your Mac may take a little longer than usual to load to the desktop/welcome screen. This is perfectly fine and just let things be while your Mac is "thinking" ... Any subsequent boots won't take this long ... it's just the effects of the spring cleaning.

Let us know how things go.

Oh, I nearly forgot ... you are confusing Memory with Hard Disc space .... ;)
