Problem with the Files app on my iPad after updating to iOS 17.5.1 My recently opened files are showing up in "Recents," but I can't open them. I haven't deleted them, and I really need access to my notes as I don't have any other copies. Has anyone else encountered this issue or knows how to fix it?

Here are a few steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check iCloud Drive and Other Locations:
    • Open the Files app.
    • Tap on the Browse tab at the bottom.
    • Check iCloud Drive, On My iPad, and any other locations you have connected (such as Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) to see if the files are located there.
  2. Restart Your iPad:
    • Press and hold the Top button and either Volume button until the power off slider appears.
    • Drag the slider to turn off your iPad.
    • Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the Top button again until you see the Apple logo.
  3. Check for App Updates:
    • Ensure that the Files app and any other apps you use to access your files are up to date.
    • Go to the App Store, tap your profile icon at the top right, and update any apps that have updates available.
  4. Force Close the Files App:
    • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or double-click the Home button on older models) to open the app switcher.
    • Find the Files app and swipe it up to close it.
    • Reopen the Files app and check if you can access your files.
  5. Reset Network Settings:
    • Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    • This will reset your Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN/APN settings, but it can sometimes resolve issues with file access.
  6. Check iCloud.com:
    • If your files are stored in iCloud Drive, you can check iCloud.com to see if you can access your files there.
    • Open a web browser on any device and go to iCloud.com.
    • Sign in with your Apple ID and check the iCloud Drive section for your files.
  7. Reinstall the Files App:
    • Delete the Files app and reinstall it from the App Store.
    • Touch and hold the Files app icon until the options menu appears, then tap Remove App and confirm.
    • Go to the App Store, search for the Files app, and reinstall it.
