missing dock

Hi,

i have an iMac (3 weeks old) and the dock has suddenly gone missing. I have checked the dock settings i.e. hide/unhide etc to no effect. Also it is not possible now to minimise any applications the only option being to close them. I am fairly new to macs so I may be missing something quite simple. Any advice anyone?
