Missing AppleTalk

With my new MacBookPro and OSX 10.6.8 on it I can no longer connect to my printer, because Apple Talk has been removed from the system. The printer has only the obsolete 24-pin SCSI and ethernet connections. Nothing seems to help. What remains? Refrain from printing altogether is something I didn't sign up for when buying my new machine.

If has standard IP drivers available for the Mac (non AppleTalk) then you might be able to use that instead. But I don't hold out much hope.
