Hi,
I have a 13" MacBook Air from 2009 (so the old ones) and last August My ziff drive that came with the mac died. So I got it replaced with an SSD. But when I got that done, the shop that fixed it for me installed Lion. I originally had Snow Leopard. Today, I tried to turn it on but it got to the grey screen with the apply and the spinning wheel screen AND a progress bar. The progress bar loads to about one tenth and then the whole thing shuts down. I recently learned that this is my mac trying to boot in safe made. I've tried cmd + r but it turns out, even though im running lion I don't have a recovery drive. And because the guy in the shop installed it I also don't have the CD. I also tried to soothe FSCK command but no luck. Can anyone help??

All you can do then is go in via Target Disk Mode, You may need a Ethernet dongle.

Well in that case you will have to take it to an Apple Service Centre near you.
