Mac Screwed Up After Cache

stats werent showing up on one of my forums that was the same as another of mine

somebody told me to refresh my cache

i started with the shift key down

immediately it was wrong, lines kept going up the screen , my expose didnt work, firefox was just a blank page for every site, lines still going up. i didnt have a volume control, everything was wrong

i restarted and its better but its slow, firefox and safari just keep quitting and wont turn on

what can i do

We need to know 1) what Mac OS are you running, and 2) your exact Mac model. If you are running OS 10.7.x or later, then there is a hidden Recovery Partition on your machine that you can boot to, so that you can use Apple's Disk Utility to help fix things.

after a couple restarts it seems to be back to like it was

You still should do some disk maintenance/repairs on your hard drive. Again, let us know the information I asked for above, and we can help you with that.

Also, you are making backups to an external device, right?
