SOLVED Mac has broken screen AND question mark folder, how do I enter recovery?

The only way I can get the external display(HDMI) to work is to close the lid during boot every time but my ext keyboard will not turn on until it's too late when the folder question mark appears so I can't click the key combinations to enter recovery mode or any mode for that matter. Also how do I, on an external keyboard, press the power key? Not possible I assume, so that gets rid of all power key boot functions.

I'm in quite the predicament and hours of searching on Google trying everything I could find was ultimately fruitless. The only progress I've made is getting the external display to work.

Please help I'm so desperate!

I want to reinstall MacOS with a bootable USB but can't do key combinations, how can I do it without key combinations?

I figured it out. I got a different keyboard that booted up quicker for some reason and it worked.

Step 1: Press Power Button
Step 2: Immediately Close Lid
Step 3: Immediately Hold Alt on Windows Keyboard

It should boot into recovery mode after this. Thanks for the help everyone!
