Lost Excel file

Important research Excel file ' disappeared ' 3 days ago. No useful information on line or from Apple without costing £££'s. Unable to access anyway !!
Fairly new to Computer Technology.
When I tried to open my Excel file to continue my work there was a message ' overwritten ' - " This workbook has either been deleted or is not currently available ".
Not in the Trash Bin.
Assistance would be appreciated.

Do you have Time Machine setup? If so you may be able to recover it.

Depending on your OS version, another option would be to try and mount a snapshot of your drive from when you know that the file was there. Here are the instructions on how to do this.. https://support.apple.com/guide/disk-utility/view-apfs-snapshots-dskuf82354dc/mac
