Lost everything from the desktop

My Macbook froze so I hit the restart button. When it came back on everything was gone from the desktop. Is there a way to get my data back?

Hi,

if you have not solved this yet try the following,
Use Finder in the menu bar and delete User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist, now empty the trash and reboot.
OR
Boot from your original Install CD's, and open Disk Utility then (1)Verify Disk (2) Repair permissions.
