For M series Macs there are several Linux virtualizations apps I've tried out: VMware Fusion (free version), UTM, VirtualBuddy and Liviable. VirtualBox now seem to offering an ARM VM app but I've not tried it. There's also Parallels Desktop but it needs an annual subscription. Currently I'm using Liviable which utilizes macOS's lightweight virtualization software. See https://eclecticlight.co/tag/liviable/
