iTunes: Multiple Libraries?

Any latest word on this improvement being offered through Apple?
I have the workaround / script edidtor solutions, but they are not ideal.

I want to have one library with all of my archived music (40GBs)
and one with all of my online downloads (latest).

Its unruly to look through the library with all songs in it.

Is there another effective way to do this?
I know I can create playlists, etc, but they do not auto update when new songs are added to the parent directory (ie: the playlists are static).

Any insight is appreciated.

maddog:

I use multiple users on my machine. I have one user that has the library I update the iPod with, and another user that is strictly for the downloaded podcasts and etc. I wrote a couple of scripts to transfer (via UNIX links to conserve hard drive space) files to my Shared folder when I want something to go onto the pod.

It works for me, since I only update the pod once a week or so. With all the copyright issues, I seriously doubt that there will ever be a legal option for multiple iTunes libraries in one user.

...it's something I've never really investigated.

All my music is just on one user account !

I'll have a route around to see if I can find any scripts...etc

This is normally a good place for iTunes Scripts... http://www.dougscripts.com
