Why is the progress of a song's playback erratic in iTunes?

In iTunes v.12.8.0.150, I see that as a particular song (an MPEG I purchased from Amazon) is playing and approaches the end the far right side of the playback progress bar goes from -0.04 to -0.00 and there is silence. This is normal. But then the progress bar goes back to -0.01 and then the song ends at 0.00. This 1 second or so is silent but is there a reason the song jumps back from -0.00 to -0.01? Thank you.

Sorry for the delay. Yes it does. My temporary solution is to delete the very end of the song in Audacity and then add the edited version to my iTunes library
