I am a PC user in Cape Town trying to solve a Mac problem via Teamviewer for my 80 year old mother in Edinburgh.... Apologies in advance for my lack of expertise and thanks to anyone who can guide me.
- iPhoto version is 9.4.3
- The mac is running OS X 10.8.5
- iPhoto is used almost daily, has about 26,000 images, and stopped loading a few days ago.
Problems:
- when iPhoto loads it crashes just as the photos come into view
- if I load the library through iPhoto Library Manager it only crashes once I try to edit or get info on an image.
- I cannot copy the whole library to somewhere safe because the process fails - "some data cannot be read or written". This is holding me back from major surgery.....
Important part of log seems to be
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000c52eb950
I can get more off that report it would help.
What I have done so far:
- tried updating everything without actually updating the whole OSX - which could force a move to Photos which is not wanted
- used a program called iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library. No improvement.
- created several smaller libraries using Library Manager to see if smaller libraries would work. No improvement
- sniffed around in the aliases but did not have the nerve to delete the containers/com.apple.iphoto folder as suggested by one thread
- did not have the nerve to uninstall and reinstall iPhoto (which would be classic windows behaviour!) because I am not confident of what would happen to the photos and whether iPhoto would reinstall smoothly from teh app store (it is in there) etc.
