iPhoto crashes on startup

I am a PC user in Cape Town trying to solve a Mac problem via Teamviewer for my 80 year old mother in Edinburgh.... Apologies in advance for my lack of expertise and thanks to anyone who can guide me.

- iPhoto version is 9.4.3

- The mac is running OS X 10.8.5

- iPhoto is used almost daily, has about 26,000 images, and stopped loading a few days ago.

Problems:
- when iPhoto loads it crashes just as the photos come into view

- if I load the library through iPhoto Library Manager it only crashes once I try to edit or get info on an image.

- I cannot copy the whole library to somewhere safe because the process fails - "some data cannot be read or written". This is holding me back from major surgery.....

Important part of log seems to be

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000c52eb950

I can get more off that report it would help.

What I have done so far:

- tried updating everything without actually updating the whole OSX - which could force a move to Photos which is not wanted

- used a program called iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library. No improvement.

- created several smaller libraries using Library Manager to see if smaller libraries would work. No improvement

- sniffed around in the aliases but did not have the nerve to delete the containers/com.apple.iphoto folder as suggested by one thread

- did not have the nerve to uninstall and reinstall iPhoto (which would be classic windows behaviour!) because I am not confident of what would happen to the photos and whether iPhoto would reinstall smoothly from teh app store (it is in there) etc.

Thanks for looking at this. The time difference is making my replies a bit disjointed but your interest is much appreciated.

I hope this is what you expect - please find below just the start and end the report into this message; I have also uploaded a txt file of the full report report because this message is limited to 10,000 characters.

Does CG shared images mean anything as it could be the culprit

It does not mean anything to me at this moment but I'll have a look and see if there are any apps or functions that might be relevant .

A little research on this seems to suggest that the CG might have something to do with Apple CoreGraphics. This in turn is apparently related to Colour Profiles which can be fixed according to the poster here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4960062

It seems that one line of enquiry is to repair Colour Profiles. Crikey, am getting out of my depth...!

Do you think this is worth pursuing?

His / her error report includes the following - not quite the same but the CG thing seems to be involved here too.
