Ipad Mini bottom 3rd of screen gone ?

The bottom 3rd of our iPad Mini screen is blank, & the contrast/brightness has gone dim, even on full brightness.
Anyone had this before, & any ideas for fix

Just to add that many have reported that their iPad screen goes blank while the device is on and working. Several users have also reported that this problem started after the iOS 6 update

its just over a year old, model: A1432
Its my step daughters, she never got to the point of updating, she has had the prompt to update but this problem surfaced before, so its currently switched off for 24hrs then we'll see what happens.
