I'm running 10.3.9
Trying to load some unfriendly software and an "invisible item" was created on my desktop. When I try to throw it away, the message tells me I can not because this item is invisible. I don't think that this word means what they think it means, it is quite visible to me and annoying. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

Thanks

Hi there and welcome !

what is the exact message ? Can you give a screen grab ?

Have you tried emptying the trash whilst holding down the option key ?

The exact message is "this file can not be replaced". I can grab it but it won't ever actually put it in the trash so dumping the trash doesn't really come into play.

Thanks for your help

Hi there,

The easiest way to delete a rogue file...

Go to the Appications folder...Utilities folder and open an Application called terminal...

Now type:

Code:
rm -r

That's rmspace -r space

Then from the Finder drag the file into the terminal window...

This should then add the 'path' and the filename of the file...

ie if there was a file on my desktop called testFile.jpg and I did the above it would look like this...

rmTerminal.jpg

Once you have that line of text...then press return

This should remove the file in question.

regards

Ric
