iMovie issue

I'm on OS 10.11.6 and want to update iMovie. I tried updating thru the App Store but it just spins for hours so I don't think
updating is working. I did not see a new version to download so I went thru Google and there are several sites to download from.
So I tried Download iMovie for Mac. In my Download file is "imoviemaker-setup". What is iMovie Maker? Is it the same thing
as iMovie? Or is it just an add on. It appears to be a 13MB file. Isn't iMovie much larger? How can I either update the version I
already have or install a new "iMovie"? ! How frustrating.

Unless an update appears in the Update section of the App Store on your Mac, any version of iMovie that appears in the App Store would require you to update your version of MacOS in order to be able to download it.

You won't find a version of Apple's iMovie via google.
