I purchased external speakers, with a normal jack plug. Which slots in nicely into the speaker outlet of the Imac. However the Imac refuses to output sound thru the new speakers. It doesn't want to recognise that I have speakers attached. What can i do?

Have you changed the sound output in System Preferences?

No I haven't as it doesn't indicate any other preference.

Try turning and wiggling the "jack plug".

I've concluded it will not recognise "foreign" speakers. Only Apple speakers. I thankyou for yr efforts, tremendously appreciated.
