I want an app that...

...will scan a pdf document and return the location (page) of every word that exceeds a variable number of characters.

This app is needed by every author whose book proof is sent in pdf form. It finds instances where the book design software has crammed words together to satisfy its rules for justification of text.

InDesign has this problem.

Does such an app exist?

Have you tried asking this on a forum frequented by the folk who face this type of issue? I'm positive there would be such a place.

Thanks, Spawn. Yes, I'm an author. I'm in touch with many other authors in my book genre (Old West history and True Crime). I'm the only one I know of who actually got involved in the production of the product. I do know some book designers as well. I plan to ask these folks about it.

I have just migrated my computer activities to the Mac from the PC after about 15 years in the PC wilderness. Prior to that I was a dedicated Mac user. I began with the 128 Mac--the very first Mac. I should never have abandoned the Mac, but I was going through tough financial times and couldn't justify the vast difference in price. So I made my pact with the devil. I have repented.

But I digress. I'm new to the world of apps too, and thought I'd ask about my need here where Apple users and developers might have an answer already.
