HP office jet 8610/El Capitan: unsupported colorspace error

Printer: HP OfficeJet 8610 Pro





Helping my mother-in-law set-up printer for her new iMac. Wireless connection; it will print the 'test' page from Mac HP utility. Printing from an application (Mail, etc) results in "unsupported Colorspace= -19" error.



I have uninstalled and ran disk first aid and re-connected. I have deleted from Printers/Scanners and added back in. Various combination of previous steps with re-starts in between. Am already balding, can't afford to pull out much more. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome.

-Did you download the software and firmware for that printer from here: HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads - HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer?
-Does your Mac have a Computer Name in  > System Preferences... > Sharing or is it blank?
-Is this over USB or Wi-Fi?
-Are you printing in color or black & white?
-Does it happen with every application?

Hi, thanks for reply. Wireless connection will print test page from HP utility. But error is thrown in Mac Mail and MS Word for Mac. Only two applications I tried.
Mac has a 'name.'

Tried current drivers from HP support AND current apple HP driver pack

Hmmm...this is intriguing.

-You could try resetting the printing system.
-Have you tried printing as B&W instead of color or automatic?
-Have you tried other apps such as TextEdit, Notes, etc.?

No luck resetting printer system. Same error thrown from mail, safari, notes, MS office apps etc. b&w option did not work either

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. Latest El Capitan patch "fixed" the printer error.
