How much disk space use Mac Mail when connects to Google Workspace?

I am working with a prospect to migrate his email to Google Workspace,
however his computer's hard disk (500GB) is almost full, so he is asking
me if migrating his email to the cloud would be a solution to free some disk space.

He is using MacOS Mail client so I understand that some kind of IMAP connection will be required

Hello and welcome.

There are several things to consider:

• Who is his current email provider?
• How are the emails stored currently - in folders in the On My Mac section (only available on the Mac) or on his current email providers servers (IMAP)?
• How much email storage is being used, as the low disk space may not be due to email?
• Can he login to webmail for his current provider and see all of his emails?
• Does the client have a current Time Machine or other backup of his data?
