How do I turn off time announcements?

After reading a recent article I set my macbook pro to announce the time on the hour (via date & time preferences). I have now unticked this option, yet it still keeps announcing the time even though speech is unticked as well as in time & date settings.

Why won't the clock stop announcing the time? Help please as it is starting to really annoy!!

Have you restarted since altering this setting?

If the restart doesn't work, you can simply delete the preference file associated with this feature.

Macintosh HD > Users > yourusername > Library > Preferences > com.apple.speech.synthesis.general.prefs.plist
