I currently have 2 disk images mounted, that are associated with Xcode.

If I try to unmount or eject them I get a message that they are in use.

I cannot seem to find a way to stop them being in use, in order to eject them.
Does anyone have experience with this, or any ideas on how to resolve the issue?

Have you tried to force quit Xcode? If that fails, you could try to quit it from Activity Monitor.

Thanks Tony, I have just tried both of those suggestions with no luck, even after quitting Xcode I still get the same message.
I may try uninstalling stalling Xcode and see how that goes.

I uninstalled Xcode and then rebooted, the images were not mounted at that time but they did appear after a minute or so. I tracked down the locations but am still unable to delete them.

Sounds like Xcode is launching at startup and automatically mounting the disk images. Have you tried booting in Safe Mode? That should prevent Xcode from starting, and if Disk Utility shows the disk images still mounted, it should allow you to unmount or to outright erase them.

Cheers Tony, I started in safe mode and the disk images were not mounted. I managed to find and erase the .dmg file.
However on re booting all seemed well for a couple of minutes, then they re-appeared.
I have checked my startup and login items and nothing stands out. Even after uninstalling Xcode the problem persists.

I have tried unmounting using the terminal too, no luck.
