I'm a new Mac OS X user and now that my technitian daughter has moved away I want to be able to use FaceTime with her. I try to sign in and I get the message: Couldn't sign in, check internet connection and try again. I'm so afraid to do anything to the computer so I froze there. Any suggestions?

You are signing in with a valid Apple ID?
You are connected to the Internet?

In FaceTime Preferences check that FaceTime is ON and you have a nice blue tick beside your email address.

Has this worked before?

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3970
also quit Messages or iChat

I would start with deleting the com.apple.facetime.bag.plist item

To do this you need to be in the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type ~/Library/Preferences into the Dialogue box that appears.

Find the File and Drag it to the Trash.

Restart FaceTime (it will recreate the .plist)

com.apple.facetime.bag.plist, was no there

Can you see com.apple.FaceTime.plist there at all, Sam?

What OS version are you on? Lion 10.7.x or Mountain Lion 10.8.x ?

If you're not sure, go to the Apple icon in the upper left corner () and select "About This Mac" and you will find the info in the window that opens ...

Hi OP,

Try this
Go into the folder /Applications/FaceTime.app/Contents/LaunchAgents
Copy the two files "com.apple.apsd-ft.plist" and "com.apple.imagent.plist"
and place them in your LaunchAgents folder located in your Library folder.
Now open FT and log in.

If by chance you still have issues which i hope you dont then you could try this.
Change the Permissions on ~/Library/LaunchAgent to RW.
Hope this helps.

That's an interesting fix, hope it works.

Does Messages also have a problem.

It uses the same login server as FaceTime so perhaps you could try to set up Messages to see if its a problem with access or local to your Mac.
