Full on comouter freeze

I suspect i have a corrupted start up file or something. I have a macbook pro. i pinwheel when i try to log in for a fw minutes... when i finally log in if i click on anything i freeze, my mouse stil works, the OS is just frozen. what do you think? this problem happened suddenly i suspect a driver file is corrupted. any thoughts?

Hard to tell what it really is.I would check the File to be sure it aint the Filesystem / Harddrive. Follow the instructions on Apples website: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417 .
