External hard drive for Photos

I have transferred all my photos to an external hard drive, to free up space for Monterey. How do I remove them from the MacBook Air and, once removed, How do I add new photos and view them in Albums, etc.

System photos library for Mac Photos is stored in the Pictures folder. Remove that or move elsewhere.

On my Mac there is a Pictures folder as well as Photos.

In the Photos app, go to Preferences>General. At the top, it'll tell you where the Photos app thinks your Photo library is at. Default is in Pictures. But someone may have moved it somewhere else.
