I have selected a photo album to serve as wallpaper, set it to auto rotate. wallpaper keeps returning to dynamic wallpaper instead of auto rotate. I have seen advice on how to disable dynamic wallpaper but nothing seems to work. I have seen where it says - settings - desktop and dock - turn off "change picture" but that option isn't there. Also changing from dynamic to still doesn't work. any advice please.

Step-by-Step Solution

  1. Set the Photo Album as Wallpaper:
    • Open System Preferences.
    • Go to Desktop & Screen Saver.
    • Select the Desktop tab.
    • In the sidebar, find the photo album you want to use under Photos.
    • Click on the album to select it.
    • Make sure you check the box that says Change picture: and set the interval to how often you want the wallpaper to rotate (e.g., every 5 minutes, every hour).
  2. Disable Dynamic Wallpaper:
    • In the same Desktop & Screen Saver settings, make sure that Dynamic is not selected under the Apple category. Instead, select Still or any other static option if necessary.
    • Ensure that the Change picture: option is checked to enable auto-rotate and set the desired interval.
  3. Check for Conflicting Settings:
    • Sometimes, macOS settings can get mixed up. Try restarting your Mac after making the changes.
    • Ensure that no third-party apps are overriding your wallpaper settings. Apps like Wallpaper Wizard or any similar can sometimes cause conflicts.
  4. Reset Desktop Preferences:
    • If the issue persists, resetting the desktop preferences can help.
    • Open Terminal (found in Applications > Utilities).
    • Enter the following command to delete the desktop preferences:
      rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    • Restart your Mac to regenerate the preferences file and then reconfigure your wallpaper settings.
