SOLVED Does my hard drive have free space, or doesn't it?

Can anybody help me with this, I need space on my hard drive so I have deleted some files.

The OS still thinks the drive is almost full, in fact it says so in Disk Utility, but it says 224GB available in About This Mac.

I also cannot install the software I need because it thinks there is no space.

Any help appreciated.

Running OS 10.14.6 Mojave

Thanks for your help; sometimes a potentially helpful feature can also be disruptive.

Apple should design an easier way to delete the purgeable.

I could not agree more. 90% of the time this feature works ok, but the other 10% can be a pain.
