Display problem with iMac

Hello, I have an IMac with a 17" screen circa 2005 Mac OS X Version 10.4.11. The monitor has developed a light streak approximately 1 1/2" wide the full height of the screen. The streak seems to run through all things including photos, dialogue boxes and desktop back grounds. I've had no trouble with the machine to date and this virtually just appeared. Does anyone have any experience with this type of issue. The effect is not debilitating but is annoying. Thanks for any advice.
