i've owned a mac for a long time and have had this issue before, but with another laptop. my display has shifted one inch to the left. it's very strange and i haven't found anyone else talking about it, and i think last time it just shifted itself back after a few days but i'd like to know what's going on... it's left a black bar about an inch thick on the right hand side of the screen which my mouse will go over, but if i open a document it auto-aligns correctly with the left side and the right side is hidden/inaccessible by the black bar. i also can't move my mouse off the screen to the left, or select any of the icons that are now hidden on my desktop over there. any advice? i'm sure it's a simple solution but i have no idea what it could be. any help appreciated, thanks in advance

Hi,

Does it show up on screen shots? If so, please post one. If it does not, then I feel the issue could possibly related to the LCD.
Some older MacBooks also had a hinge related issue like you are describing, so would also be useful to know the year of manufacture.

I would also try this move the dock to the bottom of the screen.

The only time I have seen anything like this is when a data projector has been plugged in.

Check your System Preferences > Displays
