Usually, when I have a CD loaded into the drive, it will eject in the normal manner (i.e. dragging its icon to Trash). However, when there's nothing in the drive, I see no way to open it. Supposedly F12 does this, but my F12 merely opens the Dashboard.
There's a workaround I installed based on a suggestion from one of the Mac help forums. It provides a little 'eject' icon in the title bar of the desktop. But now suddenly that icon has disappeared and I can't remember the procedure for installing it.
I have OS 10.4.11 on a G4 Power Mac.
Please help!

P.S. If this helps diagnose anything. Just before this happened I clicked on the above-mentioned eject icon and nothing happened but a multicolored spinning 'Please wait' circle. So I re-booted. It was immediately after the re-boot that the icon stopped showing up.
