Heard a scary story on BBC this morning. Apparently some hackers came within an inch of stealing a billion bucks from the Bangladesh government by hacking in to the system the banks use to transfer money amongst themselves. It was only luck that the transfers got shut down before they could grab the entire billion, and the hackers had to settle for a hundred million. I'm not sure when this happened.
The reason it's scary is that the entire global financial system is built on trust, and if people start doubting whether the banks are safe, that could lead to various kinds of major chaos.
