Apple Mail Using 52GB of Flash Storage

I decided to stop using apple mail (I'm now only using gmail in browser). I deleted all apple emails (over 52,000) & trashed all attachments.
My flash memory is still using 52.34GB for mail. How can I reduce this mail memory usage to near zero?

it seems quite high risk which probably isn't worth trying then,
are you aware of this being a general issue with apple mail? it's such a big chunk of memory that is pretty much lost as I have no emails or attachments anymore...

wow, that's more like.
I would think that the 52gb was taken up by all my emails but now I've deleted them along with all the attachments I would've thought that would restore most of that 52gb but it hasn't made any difference at all

Silly question, but have you emptied the trash and junk mail folders in Apple Mail? That could account for the space.
