Setting up new email using Apple mail

Hi, I'm trying to set up a new email account with the company I'm doing work for. My supervisor told me to set up as a POP account, but I'm getting an error message that mail cannot be sent or received from that server. Using a new mac mini with Maverick OS. Any suggestions out there?

I appreciate the help!

Hello and welcome.

It could be several things:

-Incorrect email server name
-Non-standard email port
-Username with/without @company.com as sign-in
-Firewall on Mac blocking email

I would check with the company's IT folks to get the proper information for setting it up.

Hi,

As Cory said check with the IT folks for correct info, possibly incoming and outgoing sever issue.
