tv connection from MacBook Pro

I was able to connect My MacBook Pro to a Sony tv. i used a DVI to video adapter and S cable. For sound I just connect the sound cable to the headphone port. Resolution 800x600 (Interlaced) and Window Media Player. Everything goes fine but when I changed to full screen the picture gets frozen, I just hear the sound.
The second question: How could I use the tv as a monitor closing the the Laptop and how could I weak up the Laptop again.
