ok, I have bought a Verbatim USB DRIVE for back-up. (My friend had one - and I thought that would work for me.

I got a 2 GB Store "n" Go and the package has the little MAC icon on it. So I thought I was good to go.

The directions only say that "It will automatically be recognized by your system. Insert the drive and click on the "Untitled" drive icon"

Unfortunately, I didn't get that untitled drive icon.

I only have access to 4 PDF files - one of which I can access in English and one .exe file which a Mac can't open . But no application anywhere.

I have done a search to see if that Drive might be somewhere on my computer, but alas, no luck.

AND - when I did a "get info" I was told it was a MS-DOS application.

OUCH.

Any ideas?

Hi there and welcome !

Is it a little 'thumb' drive ?

Is it not appearing on the Desktop ?

Try Finder Preferences-->Show Hard Drives on Desktop 'ticked'

If it's not that then...

Just plug it in and then go to Applications-->Utilities-->Disk Utility

and reformat the the drive as HFS Jounaled...

You should be okay then !

Ric:

By thumb, you mean the small 3" long probably an 1" wide, right?

I did the Frinder Prefs and it was identical to yours.

Ok, then I got to the Utilities, but can't find something there that says "Reformat"

(Can you tell I am really cautious about this!)
It says:
First Aid - Erase- Partition - RAID - Restore

Which is the right one?

Thank you for trying to help - I really appreciate it.

Hi there,

click on the 'erase' tab...

erase-2GB-drive.jpg

Then select Volume Format : Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Then press the erase button.

This will reformat the Drive so everything on it will be lost, but it will now be a Mac format...

Is this what you want ?
