I'm running 10.2.8 on my old 533 mhz G4.
The system e-mailer has become hopeless, I think partly do to neglect, but perhaps from a bug. I don't know.
I haven't been using it as my main machine, but still have my email posting to it.
It currently has 32,000 email files listed, some of which it has duplicated by itself.
Now, when I open it, all it does is begin sorting all of those 32,000 files, usually until it crashes and quits, prior to completion of that task. It will not let me delete, in that it never stops sorting. If I'm able to move anything to trash, its all back again after I open it again after a crash.
What can I do to make e-mail functional on this machine again? Is there a cache that contains all of these 32.000 files somewhere in the system that I can throw away? I don't need to save anything. I just want to get back to square one.
If I reinstall new system software, can I ask it to wipe out the old mailer?
