I was trying to copy some files, about 6gb, from an external drive in a USB 3 dock to a thumb drive. For some reason the is operation was taking an inordinate amount of time, after 10 minutes I abandoned the idea. I moved the dock and thumb drive to another mac and the same problem occurred,
so it is either the dock/drive or the thumb drive causing the hold up. I switched the drive to a usb 2 dock and that worked OK. So pretty certain it is the USB 3 dock that is the problem, i have changed the cable and all is well. It's always the last thing you try that works
